Learning to Read | Cartoon Characters in Books | NPT3 | Season 2022
(piano music plays) - When it comes to entertaining a five year old it's hard to compete with cartoons.
My daughter loves the animated characters, and that's when it clicked.
What if we brought her favorite cartoon characters to life on the page?
Riley, let's take a break from TV and read a book.
(playful music) We picked up some books based on her favorite shows.
Sometimes I'll read while she listens and looks at the pictures.
He should not be here, He should not be about.
Other times she takes over as the storyteller.
- Cat in the hat said, oh no, she's coming so fast.
- Even though she hasn't learned to read yet she can tell her own story based on the pictures and her knowledge of the characters.
I even encourage her to use their voices and imitate their expressions.
- No need to worry, I got this.
- There's a lot going on that competes for a kid's attention, but I wanna make sure that she learns to love reading at a young age.
Books with her favorite cartoon characters really work for us.
- Sponsored by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation helping build literacy skills and encouraging parents and children to spend 20 minutes a day reading together.
