Henry Cuellar parents: Meet Martin S. Cuellar, Odilia Cuellar
Henry Cuellar, also known by his full name Enrique Roberto “Henry” Cuellar, was born on September 19, 1955, in Laredo, Texas, and is presently serving as the 28th congressional district’s representative in the United States.
Cuellar attended Buenos Aires Elementary School to strengthen his reading abilities before completing his high school studies at J. W. Nixon in 1973. He earned an associate of arts degree from Laredo Community College, formerly Laredo Junior College. Later, he was a government instructor there.
He backs the Democratic Party. His constituency spans from the Rio Grande to the outskirts of San Antonio. In 1981, Cuellar opened his own legal office in Laredo, and in 1983, he was granted a license to serve as a customs broker. He served as an adjunct professor of international commercial law at Texas A&M International University from 1984 to 1986.
From 1987 until 2001, Cuellar served as the majority representative for Laredo in the Texas House of Representatives. He held executive positions on the House Appropriations, Higher Education, and Calendar committees throughout his 14 years as a state legislator. He also participated in a number of national committees that covered the US-Mexico border, international trade, and state budgets.
